Abloy UK has introduced a new Product End Of Life (PEOL) scheme, offering its customers the opportunity to remove obsolete hardware from their existing installations to help meet sustainability targets.
Obsolete Abloy and ASSA ABLOY products such as padlocks and locks are removed during the installation of new hardware, and arranged to be returned to the company’s Portobello site in Willenhall where they are handled securely, ready to be recycled.
This minimises the impact on the environment and in turn supports a sustainable product life cycle.
A dedicated recycling zone has been created to manage products through this waste stream, and so far this year the team have recycled 1500 kilograms of padlocks.
Steve Wintle, Head of CNI at Abloy UK, explains: “This is a new service offered by Abloy that customers appreciate and value as a benefit. It removes the burden of managing waste whilst also improving sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.
“What’s more, as a manufacturer, Abloy is keen to take responsibility for the whole life cycle of the product, that’s why we’re promoting this initiative when engaging with customers. We’ve already had great feedback, with many of our critical national infrastructure clients seeing it as an opportunity to meet their own sustainability objectives.”
