A Lincoln builder creating a dormer bungalow to rent to students has trialled a new form of insulation to offer the dual benefit of minimal heating bills and speed, cleanliness and ease of installation. Mr Brian Goodwin, who is carrying out the building works for the project, decided to use Actis Insulation's new hybrid range, which combines impressive U-values with minimal waste.
Mr Goodwin selected 135mm thick honeycomb structured insulation Hybris in the walls and 105mm thick Hybris in the roof, along with vapour control layer HControl Hybrid on the warm side of the walls and roof and insulating breather membrane BoostR Hybrid on the cold side.
On the quality and use of the insulation products, Mr Goodwin commented "When I started fitting the insulation between the rafters I found it very easy. Within about half an hour I was into a rhythm and making good progress. This is so much easier and quicker and more comfortable to work with than rigid board. When fitting rigid board you need to wear mask, goggles, gloves and overalls to try to keep the itchy dust off you which makes you hot and sweaty, whereas using the Hybrid is a lot more pleasant to work with. I chose it because Id heard from other builders that it was easier to work with than rigid board and produced less waste.
