Barkers Engineering provided the much needed security fence line for this secure site in South America.

The project presented significant geographic, topographic, cultural and security issues not typically associated with site perimeters. The sites remote location required the product be capable of being delivered in “kit lots” via unserviceable roads, through low socio-economic villages, direct to the point of installation.

The challenges included 3km of the fence line being cleared and Stronguard installed through thick rain forest regions, with areas having a gradient of more than 280. The remaining 1.5km crossed waterways and culverts and long mountain ridges.

A significant feature was the inclusion of 1000 metres of semi-portable, specially engineered and designed concrete block mounted Stronguard. The portability of the system permitted the client to “move” the fence line with expansion and contraction of site works – whilst retaining the high security design. This system was also design to be capable of withstanding category 4 cyclones, whilst providing traffic management for 160 tonne haul trucks.

Throughout its entire course, the Stronguard system was required to maintain a maximum penetration gap of 50mm between any two points (including at ground level). Security was further enhanced with the addition of Long Range Thermal CCTV and Microphonic Cable Detection. The perimeter fence system was subjected to remote attack with hand tools and vehicles

For the internal refinery plant 3.6m high Secureguard 358 provided the most appropriate barrier. Key to the achieving the security level required the fence system had to clearly support CCTV monitoring and anti-climb features. With Secureguard’s welded mesh panel system the CCTV systems field of view was unhindered. Security was further enhanced with the addition of Electric Fence topping and Microphonic Cable Detection.
