Client: Bolton Sixth Form College,
Architect: Taylor Young
Type of works: engineering, furnishing and installation of a 46 ft (14 m) diameter dome
Novum was contracted to engineer, furnish and install a 46 ft (14 m) diameter dome over a common area for Bolton Sixth Form College. The dome consists of a laminated veneer lumber structure glazed with triangular shaped glass panels held in place by edge clamps. The original concept design called for costly, unique shaped glass panels at the dome perimeter. Novum economized the design by modifying the perimeter detail to simplify the glazing and offer the client significant savings.
The glazing is the ECG system. Aluminum edge clamps hold fully tempered, double laminated, insulating glass panels with a low-E coating.
