Orphanage road sidings, Watford, London

Client: London Concrete Ltd
Type of works: installed a 4m high Betta absorptive acoustic barrier.

The scheme was designed to reduce HGV lorry and mixing plant noise nuisance to neighbouring commercial properties. The work consisted of a 4m high Betta absorptive acoustic barrier with the absorptive face to the client side and horizontal steel profile cladding to the commercial property side.

The Betta Group designed and installed the barrier to a criteria set out by London Concrete Limited. Lorry turning space is at a premium on the site and the galvanised universal posts were bolted to the existing concrete transport yard, as close to the boundary as possible. The steel boundary security fence had to be left in-situ and this posed constructional and safely problems in working on and cladding the reverse side.

The absorptive face, comprised of a breathable membrane, weldmesh, planed and chamfered timber trims, presenting a very tough finish, all timbers in the barrier are pressure treated with Tanalith E, Green.

The reverse face comprised of steel profile horizontal cladding with a plastisol finish colour of Ivory.
