Brief
Design and build of a new riverside location for the local community with a landscaped public piazza, office and retail space, a health and fitness centre, bars and restaurants.
Putney Wharf is an imaginatively conceived mixed-use development on the River Thames at Putney Bridge a flourishing community of shops, restaurants and bars, 21st Century townhouses, warehouse-style apartments and a majestically designed 17-storey glass-fronted tower.
Putney is one of South West London's most vibrant, fashionable areas, vying with nearby Chelsea and Fulham as a lively leisure and retail destination.
Putney Wharf's new squares, restaurants and health club needed a paving to bond the scheme together, while establishing it as a prestige development using only the highest quality and most aesthetic materials.
Solution
In conjunction with the developers, it was decided that the vibrancy and complexity of natural sandstone would set this development off. Aggregate Industriess unrivalled sourcing ability, and range of natural stone enabled a contrasting solution of Lapis riven Sandstone and Rainbow diamond sawn Sandstone to be chosen. The finished effect is stunning.
"The colour spectrum of Aggregate Industries's natural sandstone range gave us the flexibility to choose highly aesthetic paving options to complement the design quality of the development itself. Its cost effectiveness also allowed a diamond-sawn finish to be used which brings out the veining variation of the Rainbow and Lapis Sandstone and complements the textured appeal of the riven products.
A Rainbow sett was also incorporated into the mix for detailed feature work to highlight the richness of colour and contrast with the appearance of the Lapis."
